As the crisis in the Liberty Party deepens, the new National Chairman appointed by the suspended LP Political Leader, Senator Steve Zargo says he does not intend to serve as chairman endlessly, but to resolve the crisis that engulfed the party
Recently, the suspended LP Political Leader, Senator Nyonblee Karngar-Lawrence, nullified decision of the 2021 Convention in which Musa Bility was elected National Chairman
Senator Lawrence’s action followed her suspension and others for failing to pay the dues of the Liberty Party as members of the National Executive Committee led by Musa Bility.
But, Lofa County Senator, Steve Zargo has welcomed the decision of the Senator Nyonblee Karngar-Lawrence to nullify the national convention in which Musa Bility was elected National Chairman.
Senator Zargo was speaking recently, when he officially accepted his appointed as national chairman of the Liberty Party by the suspended Political Leader, Senator Nyonblee Karngar-Lawrence in Monrovia on Wednesday.
He termed the action of the Co Chairperson of the National Election Commission to validate the Liberty Party constitution adopted at the end of the convention held Gbarnga, Bong County as illegal.
Senator Zargo reaffirmed his acceptance of his party’s faction decision asking him to assume the position of national chairman pending a meeting of stakeholders to decide the future of the Liberty Party.
The action of the suspended Political leader of the Liberty Party was preceded by her suspension by the national executive committee headed by Musa Bility as a result of her and others’ failure to pay the dues to the party.
On Tuesday, the daughter of the Counselor Charles Brumskin, the founding father of the Liberty Party, proposed the setting up of a seven-men mediating committee to mediate between the two factions of LP.
But , there has been no word on the proposal from the daughter of the founding vision bearer of Liberty Party, Charlene Brumskine for a setting up of a seven-man committee to resolve the crisis in the Liberty Party
But, this proposal by the Attorney Btrumskin seems to be too late as things have been blown out of proportion and the national executive committee of LP has fallen apart with both sides at each other throat
Last week, the national executive committee endorsed the standard bearer of the Alternative National Congress, Alexander Cummings to contest for the standard bearer of the Collaborating Political Parties in the 2023 presidential and legislative elections.
The dice is cast as both Bility and Lawrence sides seem not to be reneging on the respective political interest at head of the presidential and legislative elections slated for 2023.
The crisis in the Liberty Party is gradually creeping into the CPP as the Mr. Bility has written alter to its chairman , Ambassador Joseph Boakai not to deal with Senator Lawrence as the political leader of the Liberty Party .
From all indications, the All Liberian Party and the Unity Party have both remained mute on the internal wrangling in the Liberty Party.
But in reality, they are dealing with the suspended LP political leader as official leader of that party.
Political observers are of the opinion that the wrangling in the Liberty Party is not resolved, it may affect the four parties CPP group and eventually their standing in the run up to the 2023 presidential and legislative elections.
