Chairman Musa Hassan Bility Resigns and Hon. Rugie Yartu Barry Takes Over The Chairmanship of Liberty Party

Monrovia, September 25, 2024: The Executive Committee of the Liberty Party (LP) has notified members of its County Committee and Advisory Council and is also notifying partisans of LP and the general public that the party’s national chairman (Hon. Musa Hassan Bility) has resigned as national chairman and has withdrawn his membership from the party. The resignation letter stated in part.

“It is with a heavy heart that I today announce my resignation as National Chairman of the Liberty Party (LP) and withdraw my membership from LP. The last three and a half years have been the most satisfying, complex, and challenging adventure of my political career. It has been an incredible privilege to lead the LP National Executive Committee (NEC), and I have been blessed to have been a part of a group of people bound together by a commitment to build a political institution rooted in the principles of inclusive decision-making, democracy, and the rule of law.”

The LP Executive Committee on behave of the party thanks Hon. Bility for his service to the party and wishes him well in his new ventures and opportunities he seeks in the political spectrum of our country.

Consistent with Liberty Party Constitution, the Vice Chairperson for Administration and principal deputy to the national chairman (Hon. Rugie Yartu Barry) has automatically assumed the position as national chairperson of the party. Hon. Barry chairmanship is coming at a time the party has initiated a national reconciliation process currently ongoing through a Joint Reconciliation Committee (JRC) setup by the former chairman and PL/Pro-Temp Nyonblee Kangar Lawrence. The JRC is nearing the conclusion of phase one of it task, which constitute signing of a resolution to guide the LP nationwide reconciliation process.

The Liberty Party wants to assure all partisans/supporters and well-wishers that LP will continue to work through the Joint Reconciliation Committee under the Chairmanship of Hon. Rugie Yartu Barry to conclude the reconciliation process and take the party to a special national convention as being proposed by the JRC. The National Secretariat will continue to update partisans and the general public on ongoing progress of the reconciliation process while keeping the hopes and aspirations of our great party alive.
