Monrovia, Liberia— The Former Standard Bearer of the Grand True Whig Party, Eric Olson, today demands a comprehensive and transparent investigation into the recent incident involving the presidential aircraft, carrying His Excellency President Joseph N. Boakai, Sr.
The Liberia Airport Authority confirmed that on Thursday, May 29, 2025, the aircraft experienced a tyre burst upon landing, temporarily immobilizing it on the active runway.
While they reported that normalcy was restored after the removal of a private aircraft from the runway, this incident raises grave concerns about the safety and security of Liberia’s leadership and citizens.
In a statement, Mr. Olson remarked: “This alarming incident must be viewed with the utmost seriousness. I am deeply disappointed with the Liberia Airport Authority’s response, which appears to lack the transparency necessary to instill public confidence. Such a technical malfunction cannot be dismissed as an isolated issue; it threatens our national stability and the safety of our leaders.”
The TWP’s former leader emphasized the need for accountability: “We demand a full, public legislative investigation into this matter. The ownership, maintenance, repairs, and service records of the aircraft must be disclosed without delay. Every government agency involved in its chartering and operation must be held accountable. Our nation’s security depends on the integrity of our transportation systems, and the government must demonstrate unwavering commitment to safeguarding our leadership and people.”
He further asserted: “This incident exposes a systemic vulnerability that calls for urgent reform and oversight within our aviation sector. We cannot afford any lapses when it comes to the safety of our President, our government officials, and our citizens.”
Mr. Olson concluded with a call to action:
“I urge our lawmakers to prioritize this investigation and ensure full transparency. The future of Liberia depends on accountability at every level of governance. We must uphold the principles of transparency and integrity to secure our nation’s sovereignty and stability.”
