After they were poised to extend protest over night

CAPITOL HILL, Monrovia-Food and drinks and mattresses taken on Monrovia’s Capitol Hill for the extension of the January 6, 2020 Council of Patriots (CoP) protest have been abandoned, as Liberian police disperse hundreds of protesters using teargas Monday evening near the Executive Mansion, the Presidential offices.

This Reporter saw police riot police and state security forces chasing protesters with whips as they fled the main streets into nearby communities. A number of arrests have been made, while many people, including onlookers, are said to have lost their mobile phones and other personal belongings in the confusion. Also, the goods of some petty traders have either been damaged or snatched in the huge crowd.

Some protester had already started putting the mattresses into use

Some level of looting took place within the perimeter of the protest area, with mainly petty traders being affected, as wayward youths referred to locally as “Zogos” joining in.

Liberia National Police is said to have made a number of arrests, but so far we do not know identities of those arrested.
