Rev Torli Krua
“For nearly 200 years, events in Liberia, beginning with US Navy Captain Robert Stockton and continuing with Matilda Newport to Ellen Johnson Sirleaf’s NPFL …to Liberia’s systemic corruption with excessive salaries and benefits of Liberian lawmakers and politicians are deeply rooted in the United States, funded unwittingly by American taxpayers and orchestrated by United States Citizens, including American missionaries or persons with lawful presence in America.” Krua said.
“To uproot systemic corruption in Liberia, one must begin at the roots of corruption in Liberia -United States of America. Ordinary Liberian citizens and American taxpayers must work together because those who steal from poor Liberia are also stealing from struggling American taxpayers.”
There is a saying in Liberia; “99 days for rogue but one day for the Master!” Krua believe skyrocketing unemployment, lack of equal opportunities, lack of transparency, nepotism, ritualistic killings and barbaric human sacrifices are all rooted in greed and the excessive salaries and benefits of African politicians. As long as western nations supporting corrupt governments in Africa continue to also serve as safe haven and bank of choice for corrupt officials, nothing will change in Africa. Ritualistic killings will continue.
Thousands of graduates will have no jobs and no future. Every single Liberian can do something everyday to help create a fresh start for the new Liberia. The United States, International Community, African Union and ECOWAS cannot do it for Liberia.
Democracy is a government of the people by the people and for the people; it’s the people who must free themselves. France, England and the United States didn’t wait for the United Nations or International Community because there were no United Nations or International Community.
There are no justifications for open ended foreign aid and technical support to corrupt, and violent governments where the system is rigged in the politicians’ favor. According to the American Social Security Administration, 38% of American workers earn US$20,000.00 or less annually and 51% of American workers earn US$30,000.00 or less annually. Compare to the yearly earnings of American workers to the salaries of corrupt and violent government officials in Liberia and other aid dependent countries like Guinea, which are sponsored by American taxpayers.
The entire budget for FY-2017 for Liberia, which is subsidized by American taxpayers,
was US$536 million dollars. The budget for the Liberian Senate Pro Tempore under President Sirleaf was US$1.2 million annually. Additionally, salary and benefits of the Senate Pro Tempore were US$482,203.00 (US$40,184.00 per month), which is higher than the salary of the President of the United States, US$400,000.00 (US$33,333.33 per month), the salary of Speaker of the House in the United States Congress, US$223,500.00 (US$18,625.00),
President Pro Tempore United States Congress, US$193,400.00 (US$16,116.66 per month) and the highest paid state legislators in America from California who earns a salary of (US$8,750.00 per month). With US$5.6 billion dollars budget, New Hampshire lawmakers earn US$200 per two year term.
