The Chairperson of the Board of Aminata & Sons, Siaka Toure is urging the latest batch of over two hundred graduates of Cuttington University to use their education to help transform society.
Aminat and Sons is the oldest existing Liberian private importer of petroleum product in the country and it has a chain of modern petrol stations around Liberia.
Mr. Toure said when this is done, the country will experience rapid development as well as the provision of livelihood opportunities for other citizens.
The Aminata executive was speaking on Saturday in Suakoko-Bong County, when he served as Orator of the commencement convocation of the Cuttington University School of graduates and professional studies and Post graduate program.
Mr.
Toure told graduates “you are about to start applying the knowledge acquired
over the years and I encourage you to apply it wisely”.
He also warned CU graduates against threading the paths of some graduates of various universities across the country who revert to street intellectualism in pursuit of jobs.
Mr. Toure however encouraged graduates to demonstrate full potential at all times in their professional lives noting that knowledge itself is not power but instead, “acquired knowledge” is power.
The Liberian businessman further stated that “people are not paid or regarded for what they know but rather what they do with what they know”.
Cuttington earlier announced the graduation of 288 students from its School of graduates, professional studies and Postgraduate program but it was established that 261 students graduated while the rest were disqualified.
Earlier on Friday, the Ambassador of the Federal Republic of Nigeria to Liberia James Dimka served as keynote speaker for the undergraduate program which saw 248 out of the total number of 291 students graduating.
It was also established that a total of 50 out of 61 students graduated from the Associate program where former Liberia’s Ambassador to the United Nations delivered the keynote address.
Our reporter who covered the event said some of the students were prevented from graduating because of financial and other outstanding issues they are yet to settle with the university.
Cuttington University runs its undergraduate program at the main campus in Suakoko-Bong County.
The school of graduate and professional studies is run based in Sinkor-Monrovia, while the University’s Associate and post diploma program operates from its Kakata Campus.
