C. B. Dunbar Maternity Hospital Medical Director Calls For Collaborative Efforts

GBARNGA, Liberia- Dr. Mamawah George Annan, C. B. Dunbar maternity hospital newly appointed Medical Director in the central Bong County has named collaborations, coordination and teamwork as the bedrock under her administration in moving the hospital forward.

As medical Director, Dr. Annan stated that she is aware that the tasks ahead is huge, but maintained that it can be overcome  when nurses and doctors at the hospital, county authorities and the ordinary citizens can work together irrespective of their personal feelings and thought.

She believes that when nurses, doctors and county authorities work together, the only maternity hospital in the center region of Liberia will transform for the better, in spite of the challenges.

Dr. Annan is hopeful that under her leadership as Medical Director, the hospital will continue to progress.

Director Annan also said that seeking the welfare of health workers at the hospital remains a top priority to her administration.

She then assured the gathering that C.B. Dunbar will not only focus on maternal health, but will cater to other health needs of patients.

There will be staff development at the national and international levels to make C.B. Dunbar the best in terms of providing healthcare services in the country, the C.B Dunbar Maternity Hospital boss said.

Dr. Cynthia Blapooh, who served as Medical Director for the hospital during the last six months, did exceptionally well for the hospital and the people of Bong County, according to her successor.

In this regard, she said, “I want to say that I am so proud of you my friend, Dr. Blapooh, as your staff had called you the “Female Giant”, continue to be that transformational leader you are. We will miss you, but again we are counting on you”.

The turning over ceremony was held at the compound of the hospital over the weekend in Gbarnga.

In her turning over message, the outgoing Medical Director of the hospital, Dr. Cynthia Blapooh said that he is hope hopeful that her successor will work with nurses and doctors including the County Health team and the citizens in order to help the ministry of Health and partners meets it objectives.

Dr. Blapooh strongly believes that C. B. Dunbar under the leadership of her professional colleague will build on the legacy left behind for the common good of the Health System.

Despite the many challenges being faced by the hospital, Dr. Blapooh described her administration as successful due to what she called, “collaborative efforts” among the staffers and the County leadership.

Said Dr. Blapooh: “Under our leadership, we can boast of a Staff bus, transforming the hospital from a maternity hospital to a comprehensive hospital, new Ambulance (donated by our president of the Republic of Liberia, Dr. George M. Weah), equipping the laboratory with modern machines (adding microbiology lab testing, complete blood count, blood-chemistry testing, and more), functional OR with new anesthesia machine and operating room light, extending the hospital capacity from 69 beds to 100 beds, the procurement of 60 KVA generator and the West Africa Power poll through Jungle Energy Power (JEP), including several donations from local and international organizations, private citizens and government officials.”

The outgoing Medical Director and now County Health Officer for Bong County,  reminded Dr. Annan that the road to success is hard work, commitment, integrity and accountability, but stated that all of this can only be achieve by treating issues with professionalism.

She pleaded with her professional colleague to build a system that will be inclusive and further build a cordial working relationship among nurses, doctors and patients that will not scare the sick from going to the hospital at all times.

She then lauded the Almighty God for being there for her, despite the ups and downs. She also praised President George Weah through the Ministry of Health for giving her the opportunity to serve her people at the level of a Medical Director and now CHO.

The Bong County Health Officer also hailed citizens of Bong County especially nurses and doctors, members of the Bong County Legislative Caucus and all for the level of support rendered during her stayed at the C. B. Dunbar Maternity hospital.

“I am grateful to you all for the love and care you showed me as Medical Director of the C. B. Dunbar hospital. Wherever I go and whatever I do, C. B. Dunbar and Bong County will always remain in my heart,” Dr. Blapooh added.
