Hours after the Finance and Development Planning Ministry was hit by a fire, the cause of the outbreak remains unknown, but the incident has raised serious public concerns.
The fire, which was later brought under control earlier today, Wednesday October 25, 2025, gutted the third floor of the Ministry on Broad Street in Central Monrovia. This floor houses the Project Management Unit (PMU), which handle international donor and bilateral projects valued at millions of US dollars.
Former Finance Minister Amara Konneh was later quoted by the local OK Fm news as criticizing the CDC government of President George Weah for poorly maintaining the building.
Meanwhile, Finance Ministry’s officials have said in a press release that “central government financial records were not affected” by Wednesday’s fire outbreak.
But earlier, Deputy Finance Minister for Fiscal Affairs, Samora Wolokolie told Journalists that the fire “caused some damages”. But he was neither specific of the kind of damages or the extent.
