‎‎In a major stride toward advancing Liberia’s socio-economic transformation, the Governments of the People’s Republic of China and the Republic of Liberia have signed a Development Cooperation Agreement valued at approximately US$14 million (100 million Chinese yuan), as Sampson W. Weah reports.

‎The agreement, which was signed on Friday in Monrovia, highlights the growing diplomatic and development partnership between the two nations and reaffirms China’s continued support for Liberia’s development priorities.

‎The official signing ceremony was held at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, marking another milestone in the longstanding bilateral relationship.‎

‎Liberia’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Madam Sara Beysolow Nyanti, signed on behalf of the Liberian Government, while Chinese Ambassador to Liberia, Yin Chengwu, signed for the People’s Republic of China.

‎The funding, provided as a non-repayable grant, will be directed toward key priority sectors under Liberia’s national development agenda. These include public infrastructure development, healthcare services, education, and rural connectivity, all aimed at improving living conditions and promoting sustainable national growth.‎

‎Speaking at the ceremony, Minister Nyanti described the agreement as a clear demonstration of the strong and enduring partnership between Liberia and China one grounded in mutual respect, non-interference, and shared development goals.

‎“This grant goes beyond financial support; it represents China’s confidence in Liberia’s development path,” Minister Nyanti stated.

‎“The Government of Liberia is fully committed to transparency and accountability, ensuring that these resources deliver real and lasting benefits to our people.”‎

‎Chinese Ambassador Yin Chengwu reaffirmed China’s unwavering commitment to Liberia’s development, placing the agreement within the broader context of South-South cooperation.

‎“China will continue to support Liberia and other developing nations in achieving sustainable development and poverty reduction,” Ambassador Yin said.

‎“This cooperation reflects our shared belief in progress through partnership, without political conditions.”

‎The newly signed agreement builds upon years of productive bilateral cooperation, during which China has supported numerous infrastructure, humanitarian, and emergency response initiatives across Liberia.‎

‎These efforts include road rehabilitation projects, construction of government facilities, and assistance during public health emergencies, contributing significantly to national development.
