China re-commits to assisting Liberia develop Human Resources

-As Ambassador Pays Courtesy Call on VP Howard-Taylor

Monrovia – China says it remains committed to continue providing training opportunities to Liberians in various disciplines, with an agenda for improving Liberia’s human development capacity in support of the Government’s Pro-poor Agenda.

Chinese Ambassador to Liberia, Fu Jijun restated his country’s commitment on Thursday, September 26, 2019 when he paid a courtesy call on Chief Dr Jewel Howard-Taylor, Vice President of the Republic of Liberia, a press release from her office says.

This was the key theme of their meeting and the Ambassador was also keen on the challenges confronting Liberia’s energy sector, stressing that the performance of this sector remains paramount in attracting investors and expanding the private sector.

According to the release, Ambassador Jijun also extended an invitation to Madam Vice President to attend the 25th Anniversary of the Fourth World Conference on Women and the Adoption of the Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action, which is a five-year milestone towards achieving the Sustainable Development Goals. The conference is scheduled to take place in 2020, in Beijing, and is expected bring together women from across the globe.

In her response, Vice President Howard-Taylor applauded the Government of China for not only investing in Liberia’s educational sector, but also impacting the country’s infrastructure and energy sectors.

The Vice President also disclosed that power distribution continues to pose a challenge to the energy sector, noting however that the Government is doing everything possible to empower the Liberia Electricity Corporation (LEC) in order to resolve the challenges.

Chief Dr. Howard-Taylor then thanked the Chinese Ambassador for the invitation to the Women Conference, stressing her role as an advocate for women empowerment for more than 20 years.
