Chronic “deception” by Liberian politicians affecting democracy-says ex-Senatorial candidate

A former Montserrado County Senatorial Candidate Bernard Benson alias DJ Blue has termed as unhealthy for the Country’s democracy the high level of deception on the part of politicians during campaign processes.

Mr. Benson, the owner of Hot Fm and TV stations in Monrovia, said he has observed that most politicians do no fulfill their campaign promises made to electorate during election period.

DJ Blue contested as an Independent Candidate.

He wants voters to be mindful with politicians whom he said are in the consistent habit of preaching rhetoric to win the admiration of voters.

Mr. Benson made specific reference to the by-election in which he said a Lawmaker paraded with 20-Liberian dollars transports buses in the Monrovia, but the buses couldn’t be seen around right after the election.

Mr. Bernard Benson alias DJ BLUE made the comments recently in the Wood Camp community of Paynesville City when he gave residents of the community 20-bags of rice and 20-thousand Liberian dollars in appreciation for the level of support during the by-election in Montserrado County.

“I just came to show my appreciation to the Wood Camp Community in District #3, this is long overdue, I being promising them to come back and show gratitude. They did very well for me in the pass election,” Mr. Bernard Benson told reporters at the occasion.

The Media Executive stated that he will be a formidable in the 2020 elections in Montserrado County.

He expressed the hope that Liberians will judge him by his believes, his works and contributions to the society and make the right choice.

The Liberian International DJ-turned politician said his desire to enter the Legislature is to improve the tourism and entertainment sector that will create jobs for young Liberians.

When quizzed whether he is not afraid of the ruling CDC that defeated him in the by-election, DJ Blue said he fears no one, but God. He added that CDC ran for about two times before winning state power.

“The people are seeing more sense in my platform as compare to the previous election”.

He added that he intends to interact with more communities as means of strengthening his relation with the people before 2020.

Mr. Bernard Benson came second with 20.4-percent of the total votes to winner Senator Saah Joseph who won with 54.8-percent of the total votes in the Montserrado County by-election.

The by-election was created as a result of the election of than Senator George Weah as President of Liberia.

Mr. Benson attributed his defeated in the by-election against Coalition for Democratic Change Candidate Saah Joseph to the lack of finance and logistics.

Following the by-election, the Media Executive praised the National Elections Commission for professionally handling the by-elections describing the entire process as free, fair and transparent.

The Liberian International DJ said he was overwhelmed by the huge number of young people who voted for him during the July 31 elections.

He urged his supporters not to be deterred by his defeat in the by-elections as he will be a formidable force come the upcoming 2020 special Senatorial election.
