The President and Commander in Chief of the Armed Forces of Liberia (AFL) has ordered the Ministry of National Defense to increase the numerical strength by the recruitment of 1,000 men and women into the Liberian army.
President George Weah said judging from the demand for the contribution of the AFL to international peace keeping operations on the African Continent and other parts of the world, it is necessary to increase the numerical strength of the Liberian army.
CIC Weah gave the order when he delivered a special statement at the official program marking the observance of the 65th anniversary of the Armed Forces Day held at the Barclay Training Center in Monrovia on Friday, February 11, 2022.
“From all indications, it is clear that Liberia is making positive strives in international peace keeping and contributing peace among the comity of nations,” the Liberian leader said
According to President Weah, the recruitment of the first catch of 350 personnel has already begun in parts of the country for Liberians who will meet the basic requirements for the recruitment process and it will continue until the country fiscal space permit.
“My government has begun taking action aimed at addressing the issue of mobility of troops in the military and our soldiers must have the capacity to respond when the need arises,” CIC Weah said; adding: “in this regard, government has made available 20 new brand vehicles to the Armed Forces of Liberia and administrative use.”
The Commander in Chief of the Armed Forces of Liberia has also ordered the Minister of National Defense to review the performances of the men and women in arms purposely to consider promoting where it is necessary.
Additionally, the Liberian leader has also mandated the Ministry of National Defense to work along with the Ministry of Education on the possibility of establishing the laboratories of the Gray D Allison High School at the BTC and Leader Thomas Greenfield High School at the Kesselly Military barrack.
Moreover, he pointed out that government has also made funding available for the renovation of military barracks throughout the country for the accommodation of the families of the military personnel and their families.
