Council of Churches not pleased with CDC Gov’t handling of corruption

(Last Updated On: )

The Liberia Council of Churches (LCC) has stressed the need for the CDC government to seriously tackle corruption by taking the bull by the horn.

LCC’s President, Bishop Kortu Brown said the concern of the people about the failure of the President, George Weah in not making mention of the fight against corruption is not in the right direction.

Bishop Brown was reacting to the State of the Nation Address delivered on January 28, 2019 to the national Legislature by President Weah, one year after taking office.

In his address, the CDC Standard Bearer warned that any of his officials criminally implicated in the alleged missing nearly 16 billion saga, which report is expected at the end of February, will face the full weight of the law.

He said the Liberian leader needs to do more by telling the nation exactly how he intends to address the prevailing economic situation in the country.

According to Dr. Brown, some progress has been made especially in the infrastructural sector but more needs to be done

The Council of Churches President added that the government needs to invest in agriculture, because it is the platform through which the economy can be revitalized.

He advised the government to mandate each of the political sub-divisions to begin an effective agricultural project.

Bishop Brown welcomed the assistance by the government to boost Liberian businesses but appealed that this gesture be extended to farmers across the county

The LCC President encouraged a dialogue between the government and opposition political parties to reduce the growing tensions in this country. Report by Augustine Octavius
