Death In Monrovia Prison, As Inmate Slit Throat Of Another

An armed robbery convict at the Monrovia Central Prison on Tuesday reportedly slit the throat of a fellow prisoner leading to his death during the early morning hours of Tuesday.

A writ of arrest was later issued for the alleged perpetrator identified as Nuch Gabriel following which he was arraigned before the Monrovia City Court and charged with criminal attempt to commit murder. His victim died after the writ was released.

“On the 12th day of January 2021, in the city of Monrovia, Montserrado County, the within named convict being there and then with the intent to commit murder purposely, willfully and intentionally took razor blade and cut another inmate’s throat”, the writ for Gabriel read.

Following the attack, the victim whose name is not mentioned in the writ, is said to have bled profusely; consequently resulting to his death minutes after arrival at the John F. Kennedy Medical Center in Sinkor.

Gabriel told our reporter from his prison bench that the incident occurred after misunderstanding erupted between the two of them after the deceased came to his (Gabriel’s) cell. Prison guards usually open the cells in the morning to allow prisoners do their normal hygiene during which time the victim went to his cell, he explained.

Gabriel is said to be a notorious armed robber who was last convicted in Buchanan, Grand Bassa County and later transferred to Monrovia.

He is said to have sustained bullet wound in one leg during one of his armed robbery sprees.

Some passersby decried the insecurity within the walls of the Monrovia Central Prison to the extent that an inmate could slaughter a fellow inmate without any form of monitoring, intervention or whatsoever. Report by Garmah Never Lomo, garmahlomo@gmail.com
