ECOWAS Parliamentarians Meet In Liberia Next Tuesday

A week-long ECOWAS Parliamentary meeting opens Tuesday in Monrovia.

The delocalized ECOWAS meeting which will be held at the Ministerial Complex in Congo Town, will run from 13-17 April 2021 under the theme: “Empowerment of Women in the ECOWAS Region”.

The meeting is also expected to discuss the visibility of ECOWAS among other topics.

According to Bomi County Senator Edwin Snowe, ECOWAS wants the Foreign Affairs Ministry to provide its usual protocol services and official guest vehicles.

Senator Snowe who also heads Liberia’s delegation to the ECOWAS Parliament, said 75 parliamentarians are expected to participate in the event.

He has thanked the regional body for designating Liberia to host this edition of the annual event.

“We present compliments on behalf of Liberia delegation and members of ECOWAS parliament”, Snowe said in a letter.

The last time Liberia hosted an ECOWAS meeting of such nature was in 2017, during the administration of former President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf; the first of a series of important ECOWAS meetings, ahead of the 51 Ordinary Session of the Authority of Heads of State and Government of the Community, on 4 June 2017.

They included the meeting of the Ad Hoc Ministerial Committee on Institutional Reform on 29 and 30 May 2017, followed by the Mediation and Security Council on 31 May 2017, and the 78  Ordinary Session of the Council of Ministers, on 1 and 2 June 2017.
