The Veteran Community of the erstwhile Armed Forces of Liberia (AFL) has adopted criteria for the appointment of the incoming leadership for the National Bureau of Veteran Affairs.

The criteria for serving on the leadership for the Bureau was adopted recently by a 19-man committee headed by Retired Major Larry T Jallah to vet and recommend qualified veterans for appointment by President and Commander in Chief, Joseph Nyuma Boakai, Sr.

The setting up of the committee, comprising representatives of retired and demobilized soldiers of the AFL, in precedence of the 2020 ten (10) Veterans committee used by the Ministry of National Defense then headed by Retired Major General, Daniel D Ziankahn and former Chief of Staff of the AFL, Brigadier General, Prince C Johnson III.

According to the report of the veteran vetting committee, for the position of Director General at the bureau, the applicant must have served in the former Army, Air Force or the Coast Guard for not less than five years or above, was honorably retired from active service and certified by the Ministry of National Defense.

He or she must have served the former AFL either as a then Brigade Staff and or General and Special Staff, Ministry of National Defense, whose services was terminated from the active service as a Field or General Grade Officer.

The criteria also demanded that the applicant must have good Human Rights records, popular in the veteran community and must hold a minimum of Bachelor’s degree or above from any accredited university college in or outside Liberia.

As for the positions of Deputy Director General for Administration and Deputy Director General for Veteran Affairs respectively, the committee made it clear that the applicant must have served in the former Army, Air Force or Coast Guard for not less than five years or above, was honorably discharged from the active service and certified by the Ministry of National Defense.

The committee also maintained that the applicant must have a good human rights records and popular in the veteran community, with a minimum of bachelor degree or above for any university of college in and outside Liberia.

On the position of the Assistant Director for Women and Children at the bureau, the committee set the criteria that applicant must have served the former army, air force or the coast guard for not less than five years, honorably retired from the active service of the army and certified by the Ministry of National Defense.

The committee also set the benchmark for the applicant to be a high school graduate with high school diploma or degree from any accredited university or college within or outside Liberia.

The relevance of the criteria herein mention, is to place the National Bureau of Veteran Affairs on pal with other Government Agencies or Bureaus, Defense authority says.

Meanwhile, the Veteran Community will hardly appreciate were the Authority concerned, consider the leadership vetted by the Veteran Community to be appointed as it is gear towards achieving the President’s ARREST Agenda which the Veterans Community wholeheartedly embraced.
