Lifting Liberians out of poverty and the difficulties that plagued them over the years is the major preoccupation of the Liberian Government, the Executive Mansion says.
According to a statement from the Presidency, this is evidenced by relentless efforts being made to transform the country, and by extension the lives of the Liberian people.
It is against the backdrop the government is reaching out to partners to lend it needed assistance to be able to achieve the ultimate goals under the much-hallowed Pro-Poor Agenda for development and prosperity.
Recently, a high-powered delegation from iconic international construction company, GELPAZ, of Burkina Faso met in audience with President George Weah via Minister of State for Presidential Affairs and Chief of State, Nathaniel F. McGill to further discussions and plan for the construction of modern, durable and affordable housing units for Liberians.
The Burkina Faso-based company headed by Alain Z. Zoungrana has expressed interest to help with the construction of 50,000 housing units in rural Liberia as part of President Weah’s plans to provide modern housing facilities for Liberians living in rural parts of the country.
Minister McGill told the delegation about President Weah’s deepest passion and conviction to improve the lives of Liberians through the provision of opportunities by his government.
He said the President was fully prepared to ensure the transformation of Liberia, and that he wants to see Liberians lifted out of the difficulties that beset the nation for years.
Minister McGill stated that the construction of the modern and well-designed housing units for poor Liberians will not only showcase Liberia’s beautification to march other nations but will go a long way in easing the problems they endured.
The housing project will commerce from Montserrado County and spread to the rest of the 15 political sub-divisions; while the units will be in various categories ranging from one-room apartment with all compartments, to four-room apartment story building with each containing living room, kitchen, and bathroom, etc.
Also making remarks, GELPAZ President Alain Z. Zoungrana noted that his company’s expression of interest in Liberia is not to reap profit, but a demonstration of the brotherly love he has for President Weah and the people of Liberia.
According to GELPAZ boss, his company is committed to working with President Weah’s government to ensure the realization of the Pro-Poor Agenda through the provision of low-income housings for poor Liberians in rural communities.
He said his company has begun working out the details of the contract and the project with the Liberian government through the National Housing Authority (NHA).
Also, NHA Managing Director Duannah Siryon said the arrangement between the government and GELPAZ is in the greater interest of ordinary Liberians, as it is in line with President Weah’s agenda to elevate Liberians and Liberia from the state of backwardness.
