Fallout From Dec. 17 Protest Haunting STAND Leader Mulbah Morlu, As Police Charge Him With Multiple Crimes

TEMPLE OF JUSTICE, Monrovia- The Liberia National Police (LNP) has charged and sent to court the head of the Solidarity Trust for New Day (STAND) and former Chairman of the main opposition CDC party, Mulbah Morlu on multiple charges, as Garmah Never Lomo reports. 

Police say Morlut was investigated and charged with multiple offenses in connection to the December 17,2025 street protest code named, “Leave or Lead”.

DETAIL OF THE OFFENSES

Police said, the conduct of defendant Morlue is , in violations of Chapters 10 including 17, Sections 10.3 & 10.4 including 17.1; 17.3, & 17.7 of the Revised Penal Law of the Republic of Liberia, defendarits! Mulbah K. Morlu and Rev. Festus R. B. Logan who were invited, informed of their constitutional/Marinda rights in the presence of their lawyer, Atty, Henry K Wokolo with contact numbers 0777058385/0880707967, investigated and duly charged with the commission of the crimes Criminal Solicitation, Criminal Conspiracy, Riot; Failure to Disperse, Disorderly Conduct, and Obstructing Highways and other Public Passages which resulted to the incidents of Simple Assaults, Criminal, Mischief, Robbery and Theft of Property.

During the Police/CSD investigation on December 17, 2025 Complainant Mohammed A. Nasser, Officer-In-Charge of the Financial Intelligence 1545hours, along the Jallah Town Road, staffs of FIA on board one of their vehicles (Renault Sedan) with government of Liberia plate number LB 6642 sustained cuts were escaping from the protest scene on the main Tubman Boulevard as a result of the act of vandalism carried out on them by the STAND protestors.

He explained that it was believed that, when the Police ordered the protestors of the civil society group called STAND to leave the street, they escaped the shelling of tear gas and ran into the nearby communities at which time, a segment of them ran into the Jallah Town Community and carried out this barbaric act against their vehicle and occupants who were using the route that was designated by the Police as an alternative route to avoid running into the protestors.

He narrated that during the process, three (3) of their FIA employees were targeted with protestors who forcibly removed their mobile phones and personal belongings including numerous checks belonging to the Agency. He further narrated that these actions have not only compromised the safety of the employees but also pose serious security implication for sensitive information that they (protestors) have made away with. According to the complainant, among those things made away with by the protestors were checks, meant to pay employees’ salaries for the month of December 2025 which details are as follow:

For her part, victim Jessica D. Beyan, a Finance Assistant at the Financial Intelligence Agency (FIA) informed the Police/CSD investigation that on Wednesday, December 17, 2025 at 1400hours, she left her office to made deposit of salary and domestic checks at the Central Bank of Liberia (CBL), including other commercial banks along with her workmates (Mercy L. Cooper and Victor Togba) She explained that upon leaving the office, there was huge traffic along the JallahTown road where they got stocked in the traffic for an hour and why in traffic, she saw group of men coming and pointing at their vehicle (white Renaut Logan) with a government plate number LB 6642.

She further that a guy to be identified wearing a face mask stated that, the vehicle was a government car and that, they (protestors) should kill them and they (protestors) surrounded the vehicle and a guy to be identified wearing an Orange T- Shirt went on the side of the vehicle where she was seated with group of people where they tried to open the vehicle door on her and later, they started to throw stones at the vehicle.

According to her, the first rock went to her face and she bent down and they pulled her out of the vehicle. In the process, they took her Black & Brown bag valued $ 10.00 USD containing two (2) cell phones (Samsung A-14 5 G valued forthcoming and Itel phone valued $ 10.00 USD), National identification card valued $ 5.00 USD, Liberian Passport valued $ 50.00 USD, Voter registration card, FIA identification card, Black Purse valued 10.00 USD School identification card, and Six Thousand Liberian Dollars ($ 6,000.00 LRD).

When she got out of the car, she was hurt on right hand and leg, bleeding and confused, and that was how they (occupants on board the vehicle) escaped the scene.

Victim Mercy L. Cooper, an employee of the Financial Intelligent Agency (FIA) located Congo Town and assigned in the finance department narrated that on Wednesday, December 17, 2025 at 1500hours, she was send to deposit three (3) checks at Central Bank of Liberia (CBL) and while enroute at the Central Bank of Liberia on board the FIA vehicle with license plate number 6642 passing Jallah Town, she noticed that there was protest ongoing and that, the protestors approached the FIA vehicle in an angry mood’ and stated that, the vehicle was a government vehicle and among the protestors, she noticed a guy to be identified wearing a black face mask who pointed at the vehicle as a government vehicle and his colleagues who were with Him broke the vehicle windshield and the guys forcibly took her brown and black hand bag valued Twenty-five United States Dollars ($ 25.00 USD) which contained two (2) cell phones (iPhone pro-max valued Eight Hundred Fifty United States ($ 850.00 USD) and Samsung A-35 valued Four Hundred United States Dollars ($ 400.00 USD), three (3) salary checks which she didn’t take noticed of the valued written on each, FIA Identification card, Love Spray valued Fifteen United States Dollars ($ 15.00 USD), Twenty United State Dollars ($ 20.00 USD) and Four Thousand Liberian Dollars ($ 4,000,00 LRD). She explained that she couldn’t remember the faces of those who took away her beg.

For his part, victim Victor Togba, Jr., operator at the Financial Intelligence Agency (FIA) explained to the Police/CSD that on December 17, 2025, he was driving a white Renault Logan sedan FIA vehicle with license plate number LB-6642 from Sinkor to Central Monrovia, and around the City Hall, the Police told him to use the Jallah Town road heading towards 5th street, Sinkor and saw Chairman Mulbah Morlu on a motor bike wearing a face Cap, a white under T after Chairman Mulbah Morlu pass by them, he saw group of men about thirty (30) persons following him.

He further that he also saw a man wearing an Orange T- Shirt and another man wearing a black face mask and a black face cap with a round red designed on it. He explained that as the men were coming towards him, the man wearing the black face mask pointing at the vehicle he was driving and stated that the vehicle was a government car, and that they should damage the vehicle and immediately, his work mate (Jessica Beyan) who was also sitting at the front seat, locked the vehicle door and he carried the vehicle glasses up.

while in the process, the group of men started bursting the vehicle and they broke the front and back windshields and the glass to the front on the passenger side. He narrated that in the entire process, his Galaxy A- 4, 5G valued Two Hundred Fifty United State Dollars ($ 250.00 USD) was taking away.

Another Victim Borkai A.M. Sirleaf, Director General of the National Food Assistance Agency (NFAA) asserted to the Police/CSD that he owned a Black MG SUV with license plate number LB 3350, and that on December 17, 2025 during the morning hours, he and his operator (Gayflor Zayzay) were on board the vehicle carrying food stuff distribution within Monrovia and its environs to disable and blind people.

He stated that in the process while on their way to central Monrovia along the Jallah Town road, there was huge traffic and those protestors were passing by the vehicles in the queue, and out of a sudden, he saw Alvin Wesseh wearing a Green T-Shirt in the midst and he (Alvin Wesseh) pointed at his vehicle.

After that, a guy wearing a face mask along with others, rushed to his vehicle and started to hit the vehicle glasses with rocks. When they damaged the glasses, they opened the driver’s door and try to stab his operator with a scissors. They also opened his door from the front seat and started fighting to pull him out of the vehicle, in that time, they thorn his shirt. They even throw stones at him which wounded him on his right hand, and his vehicle was severely damaged.

Accordingly, One of them pointed to their vehicle and he told his boss that a guy to be identified was pointing at their vehicle, but his boss told him that they were just protestors and that, they would not do anything.

He further that they were still pointing at their vehicle and again he told his boss and his boss told him that they can’t do anything and within no time they came with sticks, rocks, scissors and other deadly weapons. He stated that they firstly busted his side of the door glasses and one of the protestors wanted to stab him with a scissors but he pulled back and went to the back seat of the vehicle and that was how those guys took his Opporation  R9 cell phone valued Sixty United States Dollars ($ 60.00 USD) and Techno Carma 14 cell phone valued Two Hundred Fifty United States Dollars ($ 250.00 USD).

He also explained that while the protestors were trying to bust the back windshield of the vehicle and at the same time attacking his boss by stoning him with rock, assaulting him, and also trying to pull him from the vehicle, he went back behind the steering and drove the vehicle with speed, and stopped between two parked vehicles further ahead and parked. He narrated that it was how one of the protestors pointed to another vehicle starting that here is one government vehicle, and that was how they left he and his boss and they all went to the other government marked vehicle. He said the people he could picture were the guy wearing the face mask and another person wearing a green shirt and black trousers who he could recognized.

Witness Saywon Wulah, a resident of Jallah’s Town recounted to the Police/CSD that on December 17, 2025 at about 1600hours, while in his community (Jallah Town) he saw a lady to be identified who made a provoking statement when a group of protesters headed by Mulbah Morlu, Alvin Wesseh and others were along the Jallah Town route heading toward the Saye Town belt. He further narrated that the lady to be identified stated that, the protestors were all bunch of less busy people.

He explained that the lady to be identified statement made apparently did not go down well with the group of protestors and immediately, he saw the group of protestors began to vandalize the lady to be identified black vehicle by throwing stones at her in her vehicle.

He said after the group of protestors passed by the lady transferred their aggression and immediately started stoning the vehicle that did nothing to them neither did the people on board the vehicle.

Police investigation discovered  that during the ENOUGH IS ENOUGH protest held on July 17, 2025, “STAND” Chairman defendant Mulbah K. Morlu publicly announced that another protest would be held on December 17, 2925. Accordingly, on December 17, 2025, “STAND” (protestors assembled and commenced their marched from “STAND” office, Congo Town.

The marched was escorted by Police officers to the main streets within the vicinities of the University of Liberia (UL), Capitol Building and the Executive Mansion where defendants Mulbah K. Morlu; ring-leader, Rev. Festus R. B. Logan; co-ring leader, and others to be identified were advised by the Police to peacefully assembled, while awaiting the arrival of the appropriate Government official to receive their petition.

The investigation revealed that, at that point, defendant Mulbah K. Morlu sat in the middle of the street, while defendants Rev. Festus R. B. Logan including others to be identified congregated around him on the main streets within the vicinities of the University of Liberia (UL), Capitol Building and the Executive Mansion where they obstructed the movement of other road users (vehicular and pedestrians) and claimed that, they would remain at the location until the president of the Republic (Hon. Joseph N. Boakai) received their petition.

The investigation also revealed that the defendants’ action/s of congregating on the main streets within the vicinities of the University of Liberia (UL), Capitol Building and the Executive Mansion and sating in the main street resulted to the obstruction” of other road users (vehicular and pedestrians) movements. Members of the joint security officers lawfully requested defendants Mulbah K. Morlu; ring-leader, Rev. Festus R. B. Logan; co-ring leader, and others to be identified to vacate the main street/s. However, they resisted and began to riot by throwing stones and other objects at the security personnel, as well as other peaceful citizens.
