Finance Minister Samuel D. Tweah has narrowly missed being held in contempt by the Supreme Court, after the full bench of the highest court in the land had on Monday issued a writ of arrest against him for impeding judicial function.

But Minister Tweah today, Tuesday, November 8, 2022 appeared before the full bench of the Supreme Court to show cause why he shouldn’t be held in contempt of court.

The Liberian Finance Minister Tweh had nothing to defend but to apologize to members of the Supreme Court Bench and promised that the Judiciary branch of government will receive their salaries before the end of this week.

According to Minister Tweah, the delay of the judiciary branch of governance salaries were due to “technical issues”.

He was accompanied by the seat of the Judiciary, the Temple of Justice by the Solicitor General designate, Cllr. Nyanti Tuan.

The arrest warrant for the Finance Minister by the Supreme Court came weeks after the new Chief Justice Sie-A-Nyene Yuoh, during her first sitting in October noted that she was particularly concerned about the grievances of the National Association of Trial Judges in terms of salaries, allowances and benefits.

The Supreme Court of Liberia on Monday November 7,2022 ordered the arrest of Liberia’s Finance Minister Samuel Tweah for impeding Judicial function.

The writ said by directive of the full Bench of the Honorable Supreme Court of the Republic of Liberia, you are hereby commanded to arrest the living body of Samuel D. Tweah, Minister of Finance and Development Planning, Republic of Liberia to show cause why he should not be held in contempt of court for impeding the function of the courts and creating constitutional crisis for the Judiciary.
