Three children have been killed as fire gutted a 12-bedroom house in Liberia’s port city of Buchanan, some 88 miles from the capital, Monrovia.

The incident happened Tuesday night in the New York Street Community behind the Central Mosque in Buchanan, Grand Bassa County.

The children who were burnt to ashes were two boys and a baby girl.

Little Blessing Weah and Dehwon Sayon were between the ages of four and five; while Courage Weah, the baby girl was one year three months old.

According to the Grandson of the Land Lady, Luke Chessman, 39, the burning of the house was caused by a candle light.

Mr. Chessman told the local Magic FM community radio on Wednesday that the candle stick burnt out completely and that was how the fire started from in his Aunty’s room.

He alleged that his Aunty (identified as Sundayway Cheeseman) has been possessed by an evil spirit for many years, which he believed might have entered into her to go into deep sleep that caused the house to get on fire.

Local authorities are said to be providing emergency assistance for a number of other occupants of the house who are now displaced.
