With two persons killed, several others injured and properties damaged, the electoral violence in the northwestern Liberian city of Foya, Lofa County was one of a series of violent clashes among rival supporters of political parties ahead of the October 10, 2023 presidential and legislative elections.

The bloody clashes in Foya were between supporters of the ruling Coalition for Democratic Change (CDC) party of President George Manneh Weah and those of the main opposition Unity Party (UP) of former Vice President Joseph Boakai. Now, alleged perpetrators of that September 29, 2023 violent incident are being, after the Liberia National Police (LNP) has been conducting weeks of investigations.

This news outlet has reliably learned that 27 people have finally been jointly charged with multiple criminal offenses, Including Murder, Criminal Facilitation, Criminal Conspiracy, Disorderly conduct, Rioting, Failure to Disperse, among others.

Currently, the Magisterial Court is said to have in its possession two persons linked to the bloody Foya violence, while the others are reportedly still at large.

The acts stated above are in violations of Chapter 10.2,10.3,10.4 and 14.1 of the revised penal law of the republic of Liberia.

Ahead of the presidential and legislative elections, the Ninth Judicial Circuit in the central Bong County, has temporarily released 33 suspects from the ruling CDC and the main opposition UP who were allegedly involved in the recent Foya political violence that claimed the lives of two persons, injured several others and caused property damage. 33 CDC And UP Suspects In The Foya Violence Temporarily Released By The Court – News Public Trust

Meanwhile, not much is being heard about investigations into the bloody electoral violent clashes between supporters of the ruling CDC and the opposition ALCOP party of former Finance Minister Lusinee Kamara on the Japan Freeway in Gardnersville on the eve of the October 10 elections.

Several persons were injured and properties were damaged, with claims and counter claims as to who provoked that violence.
