As Guests Of CENSAD
A special delegation comprising women Lawmakers from the Sierra Leonean Parliament is expected to arrive in Liberia next week for a four-day visit as guests of the Center for Security Studies and Development (CENSSAD).
The Center for Security Studies and Development (CENSSAD) is a strategic institution established in 2014 with the view to promoting security sector governance and enhancing civil-security relations as a way of contributing to long-term socio-economic and political stability in Liberia in particular and West Africa in general.
A press release from CENSAD issued in Monrovia today says the delegation includes Hon. Rebecca Yei Kamara, Hon Adama Bangura, Hon Emila Lolloh Tongi and Hon. Princess Kadie Daramy. The visit comes as a direct result of a regional webinar organized by CENSSAD on June 3, 2023 to discuss the state of women’s participation in democratic governance and peace building processes in the Mano River Union.
The webinar explored the prospect of strengthening women’s participation in democratic consolidation processes in the Mano River Union. Hon. Rebecca Yei Kamara served as the lead speaker during the webinar and one of the outcomes of that meeting was for CENSSAD to take the lead in working with women groups, women parliamentarians and other stakeholders towards creating a MRU Women Parliamentary Network which will served as a platform for women’s political participation in the sub region.
Whilst in the country, the delegation is expected to meet with a number of key stakeholders, including women lawmakers, relevant government ministries, the Swedish Embassy, UN Women, the European Union, ECOWAS Office in Liberia, the media, amongst others. The delegation is also expected to visit Bomi County for a meeting with local officials.
Given the cross-territorial dimension of development and security, CENSSAD’s vision and mission transcend the frontiers of Liberia to include the West African sub-region.
The Centre works to enhance an efficient security sector which is accountable to the people and is further underpinned by the acknowledgement that security, development and the rule of law are essential preconditions for sustainable peace.
