Amidst the economic hardship in Liberia, the Rotary Club of Gbarnga has provided one thousand sixty-five (1, 065) gallons of fuel value at over four thousand sixty-eight dollars United States Dollars ($4, 68.30) to the Phebe hospital in the central Bong County.

Presenting the fuel to the Administration of Phebe on November 20, 2019, the President emeritus of the Club, Rupert Surian said the fuel donated is intended to buttress the efforts of the Phebe Administration in the County.

“This is not the end; we will continue to provide support to these different health Sectors in Bong through routine provision of fuel, medical equipment to Hospitals and clinics. We have come to leave these supplies with your facility here for the intended purpose of buttressing your effort in saving the lives of our people through treatment,” the Rotary Club President emeritus assured.

Mr. Surian boastfully said his entity serves humanity and it will always be there to help underprivileged institutions in the County.

This brings to two fuel donations made to the Hospital by the Gbarnga Rotary Club. Last May, the Gbarnga Rotary Club in collaboration with civil society actors in Bong County launched ‘Operation Save Phebe Hospital Campaign’ in the County.

The idea of the “operation save Phebe Hospital” was crafted by the Rotary Club of Gbarnga, a humanitarian organization that is helping to ensure community development in the County.

‘Operation save Phebe Hospital’ was a campaign intended to raise over two hundred thousand United States Dollars (2,000) USD for the sustainability of the hospital.

The hospital is being faced with financial crisis, including the shortage of drugs, electricity and other medical equipments among others.

During the fund raising rally, operation save Phebe generated one hundred sixty- seven thousand three hundred ninety Liberian Dollar, ($167, 390 LD), one thousand four hundred thirty United State Dollar ($1430USD) and pledges twenty five thousand Liberian Dollar ($25,000LD) and one hundred eighty United State Dollars ($180USD).

Moreover, in the November 12, 2018 County Council Setting in Gbarnga, Bong County US$000 was later allotted to the health center.

Taking delivery of the fuel, the Administrative Supervisor at the Phebe Hospital George Barbu lauded the Gbarnga Rotary Club for such initiative in the County. He alsoassured the institution that the item donated will be used for the intended purpose.

Mr. Barbu called on members of the Gbarnga Rotary Club to extend such initiative in other parts of the County to ease some of the complicatedness hospital administrators are going through.

He described the donation as appropriate for the only referral hospital in central Liberia.

The Rotary Club of Gbarnga was established in 1987, but became dormant during the Liberian Civil crisis. It was officially recognized by the Rotary International and chartered as a club on June 17, 2014.

The mean aim of the club is to promote the image of Rotary and its values through community services.
