A charity has rescued a nine -year-old girl in Ganta, Nimba County, who was allegedly held in doors and tortured for days without food and drink, accused by caretakers of being a witch.
This is an area situated over 265 kilometers northeast of Monrovia.
They are said to have extracted confession from the child under torture from one Norh Domah that she was a witch.
She was also forced to say she spiritually tied her mother in a bush around Ganta. Norh was beaten and splashed with water as she was being accompanied to the bush in order to untie her mother.
Sassywood is also a form of torture, which is a human rights violation under the UN Universal Declaration of Human Rights (UDHR and Liberian domestic laws.
Some community dwellers of the LPRC Zone 6 community in Ganta are also said to have been involved in torturing and intimidating little Norh in their bid to extract the confessions. No arrest has been made.
Rescue for Abandoned and Children in Hardship (REACH) headed by Ne-Suah B. Livingstone since brought the victim to Monrovia for medical treatment.
REACH is said to have offered to provide care and custody for the child following treatment..
