In observance of International Day of Education, the Founder Alsandra International Excellence, Vocational and Technical Institute, Alfred Kollie is challenging School administrators to go beyond collecting fees and instill excellence, standard, moral and discipline in students, if Liberia must be transformed.

On 3 December 2018, the UN General Assembly adopted a resolution (resolution 73/25) proclaiming 24 January as the International Day of Education, in celebration of the role of education in peace and development.

The right to education is enshrined in article 26 of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. The declaration calls for free and compulsory elementary education. Sustainable Development Goal 4, in particular, aims to “ensure inclusive and equitable quality education and promote lifelong learning opportunities for all” by 2030.

Speaking in an interview on Tuesday, January 24, 2023, in observance of International Day of Education in Paynesville City, Mr. Kollie observed that most schools in Liberia have lost their values due to poor learning outcomes of students due to lack of moral, standard and performance.

According to him, school administrators have played deaf ears on the issue of moral values, discipline and quality education due to fear of losing students which would also reduce their income annually.

He maintained that lack of moral values, discipline and quality education in many schools are responsible for the poor outcome of students thereby understanding the education system in the country with administrators’ concern of just collecting huge fees.

It is against these many problems that the Alsandra International School of Excellence, Vocational and Technical Institute was established to nurture future generations with values, morals, quality and affordable education in Liberia, the young education advocate said.

Mr. Kollie, who is also a Liberia journalist, narrated that early childhood education is the key to the betterment of society therefore we are ready and prepared to install excellence, values, discipline, and affordable education both academic and career.

“We have observed that the issue of quality, moral discipline, values and affordable education are lacking in our education system as such, we are coming to the sector to make a positive difference by offering excellence, moral discipline combined with spiritual guidance for the youthful population in Liberia,” Mr. Kollie noted.

He added: “The Institutions which will start official operation for the 2023 and 2024 academic years are purposely established to help Liberian students acquire the relevant knowledge, moral disciple, and skills they need to make positive impacts in society by offering them a careful blend of spiritual, mental, physical, and social education from Nursery to 12th grade and through Vocational and Technical education. We strongly believed and agreed that Liberia can only be transformed or improved when the youthful population is properly equipped and prepared for the future through quality education” He said.

The young Liberian journalist and educator explained that his vision is to provide academic excellence, affordable, and career education to enable students to explore their studies or vision while helping their parents to enhance their vocational experience with the mission of becoming a leader in excellence, discipline, and affordable Christian education.

This is being done by inspiring life-long learning to develop the character beyond intellectual accomplishment by skilled mission and value-based education.

“We recognize, however, that human motives, thinking, and behavior of our children have fallen short of God’s Idea and believed that Education in its biggest sense is a means of restoring humans to their original relationship with God while working together at homes, schools, and cooperating with the Bible or divine agencies in preparing students for responsible citizens in this world,” Mr. Kollie said.

He said that the Institution will foster together the development of students spiritually, intellectually, physically, and socially by helping students develop the habits of observation, reading, questioning, listening, and learning while building positive self-esteem.
