Grand Kru, Liberia: GCDA Donates Armchairs To Schools In KIpo-Gbetao Admin. District

As part of efforts to address the lack of sitting capacities in public schools in rural Liberia, Grand Kru County United States-based organization under the banner “Grand Kru County Development Association(GCDA) in the Americas” has donated more than 45 armchairs to the Jlatekpoh and Togbaklee Community Schools in Pinicess, Klipo- Gbetao Administrative District.

The Association’s donations are due to the prolonged inadequate students sitting capacities, amidst efforts initiated by the two school administrations through the Parents Teacher Association to remedy the appalling situation.

Making the donation on behalf of the Association’s at the Togbaklee Elementary School, Kumeh Sedee disclosed that the armchairs are intended to improve classroom comfort for school-going children.

The proxy of the Grand Kru County Development Association of America’s cautioned school administrators to ensure the chairs are used to promote academic excellence and students comfort why in school.

The Association’s recent donation will help students sit properly and receive quality education and end students sitting on the cold floor and taking seats from their respective homes daily for sitting in class to take lessons.

Mr. Sedee was quick to clarify that the donations have no political motives, rather it was from citizens of Grand Kru County residing in the US.

Mr. Sedee, speaking in a separate interview on June 30, stated that the initiative began in 2017 and has previously benefited from three high schools; Barclayville Central High, Sasstown High, and P.G. Wolloh High School, with a total of 50 armchairs distributed explaining that the goal of the project is to implement the “One child, One chair Project launched by the National Government.

In furtherance, Sedee indicated that the Association put the cost of the project at more than one thousand, one hundred United States Dollars in securing the Fifty armchairs.

Additionally,  Kumeh Sedee revealed that the organization also intended to construct mordern latrine facilities aimed at improving sanitation at the community levels.

Receiving the donation, the Principal of the Jlatekpoh Elementary School extended heartfelt thanks to the diaspora community for their timely support, describing the gesture as a positive step taken to resolving the school’s seating challenges.

Also responding to the donation, Mr. Moses Kun Doe, Principal of Togbaklee Elementary School, commended the Association and assured that the armchairs would be used properly by students.

For his part, Mr. Doe acknowledged that the contribution directly addresses the issue of insufficient seats at the school. He also disclosed that the existing school building—originally constructed by community members—is in a poor state, prompting residents to begin work on a modern facility for the school.

He appealed to the Ministry of Education, through the County School System, to support the ongoing construction effort and ensure a better learning environment for the children of Picnicess.
