Grand Motif Of Liberian Muslim Warns Against Using Mosque For Political Activities

The University of Liberia Muslim Students Association in collaboration with the League of Islamic Scholars in Liberia has dedicated a newly constructed Mosque in Fendell just opposite the UL campus.

The construction of the Mosque was funded Sheik Abdui Rahman Alareefy, a philanthropist residing in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.

Speaking at the dedicatory ceremony, the Grand Motif of Liberia, Sheik Abubakar Sumaworo warned   ULMSA against using the Mosque as a springboard for political activities.  The Grand Motif encouraged the Muslim students to use the Mosque to spread the gospel of Islam and render humanitarian services to the ordinary people in the community.

Sheik Sumaworo called on the leadership of ULMSA to also use the Mosque in seeking assistance for other less fortunate students iu order for them to achieve their academic endeavors.

For his part, the Chairman of the National Muslim Council of Liberia, Sheik Abdulai Massarey said that the Mosque contains a library, an office for a radio station and an Imam residence.

Sheik Massarey thanked the League of Islamic Scholars in Liberia and Sheik Abdul Rahman Alareefy in Saudi Arabia for the construction of the Mosque.

According to him, Sheik Abdul Rahman Alareefy is also sponsoring the construction of 50 Mosques in several parts throughout the country

Speaking through an interpreter, the donor expressed joy to be in Liberia and described the construction of Mosques  as a work of Allah.

Sheik Alareefy thanked the Liberian Muslims for the reception accorded him and his delegation since their arrival for the dedication of the Mosque.

For his part, the Dean of Student at the University of Liberia, Sekou Konneh, who represented the UL President, Reverend Doctor Julius Nelson,  thanked the donor and the leadership of the National Muslim Council of Liberia for the construction of the Mosque.

According to him, the University of Liberia has several campuses, but the only place that Muslim students used to pray was under the sun outside the main campus.

For his part, Islamic Presidential Advisor Ousman Jallah, expressed the need for the construction of more Mosques throughout the country.

The Islamic Presidential Advisor said he was very surprised that there is no Mosque in Rivercess County.

The program was graced by a large number of people including students, community leaders, women and youths, officials of the government, among others.
