Police Crime Services Department Detective, Superintendent in the southeastern Grand Kru County, Maxwell Tarwily recounts the rising assault and violence cases involving young people in the County.
Officer Maxwell says his Police detachment has arrested, investigated and charged a 16-year-old boy identified as T. Nimely Toe for severely chopping his friend’s hand with a cutlass in one of Grand Kru County’s popular gold mining camps in big Flenneken, upper Barclayville. This area is situated over 600 kilometers from Monrovia.
The local Police official said suspect Nimely was arrested Monday, May 17, 2021 a day after the incident occurred.
The teenage suspect is said to be working as a contractor under a Ghanaian gold miner who lives in Flenneken.
Police Crime Services Department has charged suspect T. Nimely Toe with “Aggravated assault” and forwarded him for further prosecution.
The victim has been hospitalized at the Barclayville health center in what police described as a very critical.
Police Superintendent has assured citizens of Grand Kru County that the suspect will accorded justice through the court, in order to serve as a deterrent.
In an interview with Journalists at the Grand Kru Police headquarters in Barclayville on Tuesday, May 18, 2021, suspect Toe confessed to using a cutlass to chop the hand of his friend with a cutlass.
But the 16-year-old boy claimed that the act was not intentional.
The victim’s chopped hand
According to him, the victim whose name has not been disclosed, allegedly took drinking water on the gold camp but refused to allow him (Toe) with to drink, while others on the same gold camp were drinking the water, something he said triggered misunderstanding between both of them.
