Describes Attack On Yekeh Kolubah And Cummings

As COP Urges CDC Gov’t To Show Leadership

The Grand Gedeh County Legislative Caucus has described as “embarrassing and unfortunate” mob action by a group of pro CDC citizens against the Montserrado County District 10 Representative Yekeh Kaolubah in Zwedru on Thursday.

The crowd besieged for hours the B-2 Guest House Rep. Kolubah and Mr. Cummings, head of the Collaboration Political Parties (CPP) were residing.

And soldiers of the Armed Forces of Liberia (AFL) had to move in to protest the opposition officials and disperse the crowd, who had overwhelmed the Liberia National Police officers, who had one of its officers injured. The mob damaged the guest house after engaging in stone throwing and other actions.

The two opposition leaders have since safely left Zwedru escorted by AFL soldiers and members of the joint security forces.

At a press conference held in Monrovia on Thursday, July 30, 2020, some members of the County Legislative Caucus including Representative Alex Grant, Senator Alphonso Gaye, and Representative Zoe Pennue condemned the action by their kinsmen.

They noted that it was shameful and counterproductive to the country’s peacebuilding process.

At the same time, the Council of Patriots (CoP) on Thursday also condemned the violence in Zwedru.

In a press release, the COP said: “The Council of Patriots strongly condemns today’s acts of violence by thugs, acting under the sponsorship of state officials against members of the CPP in Zwedru, Grand Gedeh County.”

COP, which led the June 7, 2019 anti-government peaceful protest, is calling the CDC Government to muster the courage to show leadership by condemning such actions and launching a full-scale investigation into the gravely disturbing matter.

“The CoP believes that this is a calculated attempt ahead of the Special Senatorial Elections to intimidate the opposition through violent tactics. This will NOT work!” said the pressure group.

The CoP has made it very clear that any future acts of violence will be strongly resisted and that they shall defend ourselves by all means necessary.
