In Monrovia: Year-End Academic Quizzing Competition Closes With Christmas Gift Distribution

A not-for-profit organization, Rescue Youth Alliance has completed a year-end academic quizzing and Christmas Gift distribution to several students at the

Excellent Learning Foundation Academy (ELFA) at the Old Matadi Estate in Monrovia’s Sinkor suburb, as they join Christians around the World in observance of Christmas.

The gifts were presented to students through an academic challenge or competition by answering various academic questions that brought together students from the junior high division.

Attending the program were the school’s administrators including the Principal – Mr. Ouharol Rahim Barzon, instructors, and members of Rescue Youth Alliance including its CEO, Ambassador Sylvester C.Choloplay in District #9 of Montserrado County.

Over twenty-four students from the junior high division received Christmas packages for answering questions while Student Hellen Victor from the ninth grade who answered the highest questions walked away with a thousand Liberian dollars and Christmas packages.

Rescue Youth Alliance provides inclusive, innovative, and sustainable programs and services that are capable of improving individual lives and the communities through Education, Peace-building, Career Development (Leadership), and climate Change/Environmental Activities.

As a non-political, not-for-profit institution, it was established in Liberia to improve and empower the lives of the youth and to protect children in Liberia and the world at large. It focuses on youth empowerment, education, peace-building, leadership building as well as Career Development and environmental issues.

Rescue Youth Alliance made available several questions to students in the areas of Language Arts, Liberian Civics, Vocabularies, and Christmas-related questions from the bible as their way of testing students’ academic performance.  Each successful student who answered a question correctly walked away with a package of Christmas bags, hats, biscuits, and sticky candies in one package.

Speaking during the ceremony recently, the Organization’s Founder and Chief Executive Director, Ambassador Sylvester C. Choloplay noted that the project is worth 8, 650 Liberian Dollars (45 USD) for the packages and the winner’s financial appreciation gift.

Mr. Choloplay, who is a Liberian journalist, called on the students to remain academically engaged as they go for the festival seasons in domain fresh academically upon their return to school in 2024.

He encouraged students to remain studious and focus on their education if they want to see themselves fulfilling their dreams and aspirations tomorrow.

According to him, they have over the years been engaging and implementing several programs including quizzing competition programs, provisions of financial aid to students, and leadership training.

Grateful for the effect, love and courage

In remarks, the Principal of Excellent Learning Foundation Academy, Ouharol Rahim Barzon thanked the organization for the insightful academic program and the presentation of gifts.

“I am grateful for the effect, love, and courage young people are giving our students.  The academic challenge was indeed great and we hope and pray that these kinds of engagement continue,” Mr. Barzon noted.

Mr. Barzon however, used the occasion to call on school administrators to introduce what he calls meet the academic challenge competition in their various schools to help build students for exposure and other academic challenge.

He therefore, commented on students for their excellent performance by showing to the public what they have learned over the period but urged parents to continue to support their children’s education.

Rescue Youth Alliance primarily focuses on the advocacy of underprivileged kids, especially between the ages of three to eighteen in Liberia and in the world. We hope to advocate and provide through education, provision of good leadership and business strategies.

Its goal is to provide quality living conditions for humanity, predominantly disadvantaged kids in society through education, career development, peacebuilding, entrepreneurship, etc.
