The provisional results of the first phase of the just-ended Biometric Voter Registration released on Monday by the National Elections Commission (NEC) shows nearly half of those registered are females.
Announcing the results at a news conference at the NEC, headquarters, the Commission’s Chairman Davidetta Borwne Lansanah said a total of 1, 435, 209 registered in the first six counties–Montserrado, Bomi, Grand Bassa, Grand Cape Mount, Gbarpolu and Margibi.
The second phase of the BVR exercise is set to begin in the remaining nine counties of Liberia starting this Thursday, April 21, 2023. They are Grand Gedeh, Nimba, Sinoe, Grand Gedeh, Maryland, River Gee, Rivercess, Sinoe, Bong and Lofa Counties.
NEC says there are 1,065 Voter Registration Centers in the phase one counties.
The Commission also promised to release information on duplicate registrants detected during the deduplication process.
Meanwhile, NEC says it began payment of registration workers on Monday, 17 April 2023.
