Justice Forum LIBERIA (JFL) is reiterating its call on the legislative branch of government for the creation and commissioning of an ‘Independent Police Complaint Commission’ similar to that of the United Kingdom.
The leadership of Justice Forum LIBERIA, (JFL) has said that it is taken aback and disturbed by a news report that an infant believed to be about two-month-old was recently tear gas by riot police officers of the Liberia National Police in the quest of stopping a protest in the Zeon Town community.
This is contained in the group’s press release issued on Thursday and signed by its Executive Director, Mr. Maxson Kpakio
According to Executive Director Kpakio, the leadership of this human rights organization is following the case and in readiness to render support to the family for the sake of making sure that an investigation is launched and justice is served.
Mr. Kpakio however, described the incident as unfortunate on the part of the ministry of Justice to put unprofessionalism ahead of exercising professional duties.
He further stressed that the failure of the government through the ministry of Justice to listen to the organization’s call for the re-visitation of the act that created the police force and reinforce the professional standard policies of the academy, police brutality and unprofessionalism will continue to always be exhibited by police officers.
