Kakata Community College Win “Who Owns The Academia Quizzing Tournament”

KAKATA, Liberia- The month’s long Pop-Quizzing Tournament climaxed over the weekend with the Eagles Kingdom of Kakata Community College (KCC) crowned champions.

The month’s long quizzing tournament was named “The William F. Gizi Academic Excellence Program” under the auspices of the Jacob J. Flomo Initiative under the theme “Reawaking The Spirit Of Academia “.

The tournament which kickoff on 6 March at the St.Paul Lutheran High School in Kakata,Margibi County brought together sixteen schools namely, Kakata Community College (KCC),St. Augustine Episcopal Mission High School,St.Paul Lutheran High School, SDA Konola Mission School, Shells Love,Lango Lippaye High School, Booker Washington Institute (BWI) among others.

There were sixteen schools participating in the preliminary rounds of the 1st edition of the “William F. Gizi Academic Excellence Program with eight schools qualifying for the quarter final stage while four schools qualify to the semi-finals with BWI and KCC emerging as finalist.

The Tigers kingdom of the BWI won Scorpion kingdom of St. Augustine Episcopal Mission High School 135-0 in the semifinal to advance to the grand final while the Eagles Kingdom of KCC won a 50pts margin over Albert Osborn Salvation Army School System with the final score 90-40 to secured a slot in the grand final.

The Grand final which was witness by Margibi County District # 4 lawmaker Rep. Ben A. Foffana, eminent citizens of Margibi County including the president of LINSU and FLY among others.

In the grand final , Kakata Community College won a 45 points over Booker Washington Institute with the final score  95-45 while in game one At.Augustine Episcopal Mission won the third place after defeating the Albert Osborn Salvation Army School 90-20 points with 70 points margin.

The final which was halted due to complain by the BWI quizzing teams headed by it team captain John T.Korfeh with misconduct of students and Alumni of the BWI couldn’t continue due to dissatisfaction from BWI that gives the organizer no choice put to crown KCC champions of this year tournament.

The winner of this year first edition of “The William F. Gizi Academic Excellence Program” will received a cash prize of LD $ 20,000.00, while second and third place will pocket LD 15,000.00 and LD 10,000.00.

Speaking to this paper, Mr.Jacob F. Flomo,Sr CEO of The Jacob J. Flomo Initiative said the sole purpose of the tourney is/was to bring back the reawaken’s of intellectualism because his organization has noticed that it has been dogma for sometime within Kakata,Margibi County.

CEO Flomo mentioned that the organization saw it necessary to name the Pop-Quizzing Tournament “The William F. Gizi Academic Excellence Program” due to the numerous contribution of Mr.William F. Gizi in the education system of Margibi County and the Country at large.

At the same time, CEO Flomo used the occasion to thank all of the schools administrator for the cordial support and relationship and good discipline shown by the schools during the time of the competition.

Mr.William F. Gizi served as County Education Officer (CEO) of Margibi County from 2007-2013.

The former CEO Gizi teaches at the Cuttington University Junior College in Kakata,Margibi County and also the Harbel College in Lower,Margibi County.

He is currently the acting chairperson of the Education Department at the Cuttington University Junior College on the Bong Mines Road Kakat Margibi County.

The Jacob .J. Flomo Inatiative is a nonprofit organization that has/have over 150 volunteers youth and it CEO/Founder is Jacob J.Flomo,Sr.

It was established in 2020 with a motto “Little Thing That Matter” with a program of providing empowerment for Liberian Youth through education and agriclture and is based in Kakata, Margibi County.

About the CEO/Founder:

Jacob J. Flomo,Sr is the first vice president of the Federation Of Liberian Youth. He has served this role since his election in December of 2018 and his subsequent induction into office in January 2019.

As first VP, he supervises the activities of FLY in five counties, namely Margibi, Montserrado, Gbarpolu, Grand Cape Mount and Bomi Counties respectively.
