“Keep a low profile”-US Embassy cautions staffers ahead of planned demonstration

The United States Embassy in Monrovia is putting its staffers on alert, cautioning them not to be in areas where the planned “bring bac our money” demonstration is due to take place on Monday, September 24, 2018 by a Coalition of civil society groups.

Organizers of the demonstration say they will present a petition to the US Embassy on Monday to put pressure on the George Weah government to account for the missing nearly 16 billion Liberian dollars, which is presently being investigated.

Demonstration Alert: U. S. Embassy Monrovia, Liberia

Location: Starting outside the U.S. Embassy on Benson Street, proceeding through downtown Monrovia.

Event: A demonstration is expected to take place on the morning of Monday, September 24, 2018, time TBD, starting outside the U.S. Embassy on Benson Street and proceeding through downtown Monrovia.

U.S. government personnel are advised to avoid those areas.

  • Avoid the areas of the demonstrations.
  • Exercise caution if unexpectedly in the vicinity of large gatherings or protests.
  • Monitor local media for updates
  • Keep a low profile.
