The National Elections Commission (NEC) Hearing Officer in the case involving former President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf versus her ex-Deputy Joseph Boakia and the former ruling Unity Party (UP) has reserved ruling for the motion to dismiss the application for this Friday.
Counselor Muana Ville took the decision following heated legal arguments between the lawyers representing the UP and the four expelled members.
Former President Sirleaf and other UP members were expelled from the party for allegedly betraying the Unity Party, which lost the 2017 elections to the then main opposition Coalition for Democratic Change (CDC).
Cllr. Jonathan Massaquio and Attorney Mameita Sirleaf of the International Law Group filed a law against former Vice President Joseph BoakaI, Standard bearer of the Unity Party and Wilmot Paye, the UP National Chairman.
The law suit was filed against the former VP and others for allegedly expelling former President and Standard Bearer Emeritus Sirleaf, Senator Commany Wesseh, Madina Wesseh and Patrick Wozie, acting Secretary General of the party.
But when the case was called for hearing, Counselors Albert Sims and Ousman Feika, on behalf of the Unity Party resisted the application of the lawyers representing former President Sirleaf and others, on grounds that the petitioners did not make use of the Inquiry Committee of the UP to resist their expulsion
Counselors Sims and Feika, both of whom from the Sherman and Sherman Law Firm, also challenged the right of the lawyers representing the former Liberian President and three others, alleging that they were not license by the Supreme Court of Liberia and Liberia National Bar Association to practice law in the country.
It may be recalled that former President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf, Senator Commany Wesseh, his wife Madina Wesseh and Patrick Wozie were expelled for violating the constitution of the Unity Party.
Following their expulsion, there was a demonstration by some members of the party.
