Judges at the 2022 China’s prestigious essay competition, organized by the International Department of Communist Party of China Central Committee have named Liberian journalist Nicholas D. Nimley, as 2nd prize winner of the international writing and photography competition.

In December 2021, an essay written by the Liberian journalist won the 3rd prize, after its selection as the third best and outstanding essay.

Journalist Nicholas D. Nimley, is a former Editor of The NEWS Newspaper, and currently an Editor at the New Covenant Outreach Ministries Online Television, and also a freelance journalist at China Daily Africa.

The writing and photography essay was about learning more on how young people, especially Africans view the Communist Party of China in terms of governance achievement and experience over the past decade, and what suggestions they could make to promote exchanges of ideas and governing experience between Africa and China, in order to jointly build a high-level China-Africa community with a “shared future”.

Journalist Nimley essay was titled: Advice on Governance Experience Sharing between the CPC and African Political Parties.

He said that thousands of academicians, journalists, political analysts, young cadets from political institutions, representing 88 countries in Africa, Asia and from around the world took part in the competition.

Highlighting some of the points in his essay, the Liberian journalist noted that the establishment of the Forum on China Africa Cooperation should serve as a cardinal reason for governance experience sharing between the People’s Republic of China and African countries.

“We’re aware that China stands on “non-interference”, but deepening governance and experience sharing is not interference, instead it is something that strengthens ties, which should have started long ago”.

According to him, it is a known fact that governance in Africa looks more to the WEST regarding experience sharing, compared to the Asian, South American and Caribbean regions, adding that despite these experiences sharing with western countries, thousands of Africans are still making desperate journeys to Europe in search of better opportunities and to improve their living conditions.

He pointed out that the “WEST”, concentrated governance systems in Africa, hasn’t been a help in addressing social and economic issues, which are the main reasons that contribute to Africans fleeing the continent to Europe and other places for “greener pasture”.

He revealed that governance experience sharing should serve as the best platform for African political parties and governance in power to learn from the CPC about ways the people of Africa could improve its governance system, step out of extreme poverty, and embrace more partnerships with China.

However, he said: “This learning path through experience sharing when embraced throughout the 54 FOCAC member countries could further enhance Africa’s development, improve infrastructure development, by addressing its infrastructure deficit, fight corruption and improve the living standards of Africans”.

He expressed the view that if China’s governance experience has led to these remarkable achievements over the years, then, it is something that African political parties should learn from in fighting corruption, which is impeding growth and development on the continent.

He added that China has “zero” tolerance when it comes to corruption, and since it is corruption which is impeding Africa’s growth and development, there’s no country other than China that African countries can learn from in dealing with this nightmare. And this makes the governance experience sharing very pivotal in this collaboration with Africa.
