Liberians In South Sudan Donate Oxygen Canisters To JFK Hospital

The Association of Liberians in South Sudan (ALISS) has donated a oxygen canisters to the largest public referral hospital in Monrovia, John F. Kennedy Medical Center as their way of bossting the effort of the hospital.

Donating the oxygen canisters on behalf of the group, Madam Helena Kamara, a former President of the Association said that the consignment of sixty canisters oxygen is ALISS way of identifying with the government in its fight against the ravaging COVID-19 pandemic.

Madam Kamara said the donation is not the first but the second time in the last year.

She said that during the height of the first wave of COVID-1, ALISS presented a consignment of personal protective equipment (PPE) medical supplies and other equipment, costing about eight thousand United States dollars (8,000) to the Ministry of Health.

According to her, the donation is a testimony of their collaborative efforts in supporting the national government to fight COVID-19 together.

The former President of ALISS expressed her gratitude to the current leadership of the Association and other compatriots in East Africa, specifically those spread out in South Sudan.

She said they also appreciate the JFK administration and it’s medical staffs for being one of the front-liners in the anti COVID-19 fight in the country adding that they recognize the difficulty and harsh constraints occasioning this fight.

Given the pandemic is a global situation, every nation is basically on its own in this fight and with our already challenged health systems being pushed to the limit, the need to rally every dime and nickel to aid their government in this fight cannot be overemphasized madam narrated.

ALISS sees it fitting to continuously respond in this measure to lend our hands and hearts to the efforts of their good to beat back this monstrous virus which is causing havoc, they have come to aid the process in fighting the pandemic, Madam Kamara pointed out.

As a small team of compatriots in South Sudan, the Liberians there were able to raise a little over 3,800 USD to buy the Oxygen canisters.

ALISS is a community of Liberians working in South Sudan in east africa adding that they are spread all over South Sudan working for several International organizations. Over the ALISS has supported several community initiatives back home, including the provision of hand pumps, school supplies and medical assistance.

In December of 2019, ALISS provided over one hundred maternity kits costing over two thousand to mother’s at four health centers in Margibi and Montserrado Counties. This anti-COVID19 initiative is their latest in such support and intend to continue supporting both government and Community projects as the Lord keeps blessing compatriots in South Sudan.

Meanwhile, Ignatius R. Kamara Director for Material Management at JFK, lauded the association for their kind gesture and promised to make maximum use of them.
