The National Commission on Disabilities (BCD) has officially submitted it’s roadmap to the ruling Coalition for Democratic Change (CDC) government, as part of activities commemorating the International Day of Persons with Disabilities.
It also marked the climax of the national disability summit held from December 4-5, 2021 at the Ministerial Complex in Monrovia’s Congo Town suburb.
Among other things, the disability roadmap considers the well-being of persons with disabilities, which includes empowerment and at least (5) five percent in the employment rate, as well as other corporate benefits and direct empowerment as issues highly considered in the NCD’s 2021/22 final roadmap.
Addressing the opening and International day on Disability celebration, President George Weah pledged his Government’s full commitment in formulating policies and programs that will foster a favorable socioeconomic and political space that empowers people with disabilities in Liberia.
He averred that his government will continues to embark upon programs that are intended to create equal access to health care and other fundamental rights.
“I want to assure you that my government will put programs and policies in place to help you. We will began to take the necessary steps to restore your basic and fundamental rights,” the Liberian leader said.
He assured the gathering of people with disabilities that his government will give it’s fullest support to the minority group through the requisite institutions and the office of the vice president of the Republic of Liberia, Madam Jewel Howard Taylor.
“I am here today to give you my fullest support. My Administration will continue to work to improve the conditions of persons with disability in Liberia. This will require the involvement of the work of organizations working in the sector, including the National Commission on Disabilities, which is overseen by Vice President Taylor in her capacity as Chairperson,” President Weah furthered.
