Finance and Development Planning Minister Samuel Tweah, as part of a high level panel, is expected to speak on the immediate and long-term impacts of COVID-19 in fragile and conflict-affected settings. The virtual event will take place from 15h00 to 16h00 GMT on Wednesday and is being hosted by the U.S. Institute of Peace (USIP) in partnership with the World Bank, a dispatch from the Information Ministry says.
The Coronavirus has effected the world’s most advanced healthcare systems and impacted their economies in ways previously unimaginable. Liberia is one of many developing countries expected to reel from some of the economic shocks of COVID-19, but the government has been working with bilateral and multilateral partners to mitigate the effect of the crisis.
The panel for Wednesday’s event will include the World Bank’s Managing Director for Operations, Axel Van Trotsenburg; USIP’s President and CEO Nancy Lindborg; and the United Nations Under- Secretary General and Emergency Relief Coordinator, Sir Mark Lowcock. Minister Tweah is expected to highlight Liberia’s experience with the disease and what actions the country is taking to avoid an economic downturn.
