The Liberia Revenue Authority says it is expected to collect about US$200 million to contribute to the annual national budget this year.
Elfreda Tamba, the Commissioner General of the LRA disclosed that said her entity has since collected US$104 million this year.
The current budget year ends by the first of June.
Speaking at a ceremony marking the observance of the International Customs Day in Monrovia over the weekend, Mrs. Tamba said customs officers and brokers have the responsibility to ensure that goods entering and leaving the country are done legally, safe and not harmful to the security of the state, region and external customs territories .
She added that the vision of the LRA is to have a transformed and modern entity, with stronger integrity and adhering to international standards.
Tamba added that Liberia has commenced the transformation process and there are certainly to be done.
According to her, funding and technical capacities are key challenges but the LRA and national stakeholders remain committed to the national vision.
The celebration, which brought stake holders in custom sector together, was held under the theme, “A Secure Business Environment for Economic Development, “
According to the World Customs Organization (WCO), the 2018 celebrations of World Customs Day is dedicated to the security of the business environment.
The theme for this year is: “A secure business environment for economic development,”
