Jurors have brought a unanimous guilty verdict against 77-year-old defendant Josiah Karwon in Sanniquellie City, Nimba County, Northeastern Liberia.
The guilty verdict came on Monday, December 9, 2019, after Jurors listened to the trial proceedings and evidence adduced in court by both state prosecutor and defense lawyers in the rape-murder case of the 11-year-old child.
Oldman Karwon was indicted by the state for kidnapping, Raping and murdering the girl in Buah town, Nimba in January this year.
On January 14th of this year, an 11-year-old Veroline Lougon went missing after she had gone to wash at a nearby creek. The next day, the victim was discovered buried in a swamp with her foot protruding from the shallow grave.
Following the discovery of the victim by 15 men jurors set to examine the body, it was observed that she was raped and murder and secretly buried by the defendant.
On the day of the incident on January 14th this year, the defendant was seen with shovel, digger, cutlass and touch light with his entire clothes on him muddy with the same mud discovered on the victim.
However, the defense lawyers have taken exception to the guilty verdict by trial jurors but he did not file in motion of new trial.
Meanwhile, this reporter was cut off with the victim mother Mamie Lougon who said she satisfied that justice has been served in the gruesome murder of her 11 year old daughter though she is gone.
Madam Lougon also thanked God that justice has prevailed adding that the justice prevailed is about the child but Liberia at large.
