Man held for rape of 13-year-old girl dies in Gbapolu Prison

Reports from Liberia’s northwestern city of Bopolu in Gbapolu County say an inmate identified as Mannah Sando has died in prison.

Sando is believed to be in his late 40s.

One report says inmate Sando was charged with statutory rape and was forwarded to court for prosecution.

Defendant Sando allegedly raped a 13-year-old old girl in Gbarma District, Gbapolu County. 

According to the report, last Wednesday inmate Sando died in prison after complaining from chronic usher.

Furthermore, the report disclosed that after he complained of severe usher, he was taken to health center for medical treatment which he was given prescription and returned to the prison center. 

It was believed that maybe he never has the money to buy drug that prescribed by health authority might have been the cause of his death. 

However, defendant Sando was expected to be tried in Court this week when he met his demise and has since been buried. 

At the same time,  a hunter identified as Francis Samuka has shot himself unknown to him in the bush during hunting period. 

Samuka was not seen two day after he went to hunt in the bush and couldn’t not be seen by family members. 

When he couldn’t seen,  he was searched for by family members but he was discovered dead with his single barrel lying down over him. 

It was observed that he put the gun on and forgot to close it and went to sleep when it fired him unknown to himself.

15men coroner jurors was set to examine the body but discovered that no fraud was played.

In another development, Gbapolu County Hospital Medical is currently being probed at the Superintendent office for allegedly stealing ten bags of rice. 

According reports, the medical director allegedly ordered the warehouse manager to put ten bags of rice in the Ambulance in the name of paying someone who had done some work for the hospita,l because there was no money to pay the person. 

The investigation further stated that the ten bags of rice were placed in the ambulance at night. But while en route with the rice at the check point, security search the ambulance and discovered the rice and later reported the matter to the county authorities.

The rice was meant for nurses but due to the insufficiency of the rice, the hospital administration decided to be cooking it for patients at the hospital, when the medical director sent the ware house manager to get two bags of rice. But the quantity of rice later turned to ten bags to pay the unknown person who had done the work on the hospital. 

In an interview with the Gbapolu County Superintendent, J. Keyah Saah via mobile phone, he said that the ten bags of rice were discovered in the ambulance, but the matter is before his office for investigation.

Therefore, the Gbapolu County Superintendent said he cannot comment further on the matter until the investigation has been concluded. 

Meanwhile, the medical director of Gbapolu County Dr. Claresia Jallah in a mobile phone conversation said she instructed the ware house manager to take three bags of rice but to her surprise, ten bags of rice were removed and place in the ambulance at night instead of day. 

She further stated since the incident occurred, the Ministry of Health has launched an investigation and they are yet to come out with findings into the allegation.

Two security officers are also under investigation for allegedly stealing mosquito nets and investigators are yet to establish how the mosquitoes net were stolen. Report by Garmah Never Lomo,garmahlomo@gmail.com
