The Executive Mansion remains Tight-lipped about Social Media video recordings of Women purported to be girlfriends/mistresses of Liberian President Weah, George Manneh Weah.
First, it was the Chairman of the ruling CDC party, Mulbah Morlu who, in a leaked recording many months ago, criticized President George Weah for being a womanizer and allegedly giving out government jobs for sex.
In the leaked audio, Mr. Morlu accused President Weah of having sexual affairs with his female employees and as well diverting fund intended for the country to his personal use.
Morlu, who later admitted to have made such utterance, however said he made the statement because he was under the influence of alcohol–he was drunk.
In his reaction to Morlu’s leaked audio, President Weah said late last year that he had forgiven the CDC Chairman.
“Morlu is the chairman of CDC; I mean everyone can get angry and talk, but those that sit when people are expressing their frustration to record them and play them, these are rocketeers,” President Weah said.
Now, video recordings have gone viral on the Social Media in the last week from young women claiming to be mistresses of the Liberian leader.
One of those who have come up is Tangie Banto, who is said to be an original girlfriend of President Weah and has gotten the backing of some friends.
The fire has been directed at the Deputy head of the National Oil Company of Liberia (NOCAL), Attorney Safuao Gray. “If I see you anywhere, I will pursue you,” one of the video messages says.
In the videos, threats were issued to get at the deputy NOCAL boss and the Liberian leader was accused of putting Tanjie aside for the NOCAL official and she was involved in gossip. The expressions used in the video were largely vulgar, with repeated branding of the President’s practice of allegedly knocking mistresses heads together as “disgraceful”. There was recounting of one such incidents in 2018 on the President’s dining table with claim of gossip spewed then.
The rhetoric in the video generally borders on anger by the competing female friends of the President, with threats to pursue the deputy NOCAL boss, Safuo Gray. Up till press time, there has been no statement from the top NOCAL official.
The social media recording has been trending for about one week now, but the Executive Mansion remains tightlipped.
When Deputy Presidential Press Secretary, Smith Toby was contacted by www.newspublictrust.com
on Saturday, September 12, 2020, he declined to comment on the social media outburst.
Mr. Toby said he has no authority to speak on such a personal issue.
Asked whether President Weah has seen or heard the recording, the deputy Press Secretary said that has not been discussed at the Mansion, as far as he is concerned.
The revelation by CDC Chairman Morlu prompted threat from opposition political parties’ lawmakers earlier this year, saying that they would launch a parliamentary inquest.
One of them, the Chairman of the former ruling Unity Party Legislative Caucus, Hanson Kiaqolu of Montserrado County district #17 vowed o lead an Article of Impeachment against the President due to the egregious allegation levied against the President by Chairman Morlu.
