HARPER, Liberia- Marylanders in both Harper and Pleebo cities are adhering to Liberia the dusk to dawn curfew imposed on these areas last week by President George Mannah Weah, in the wake of a wave of violent protests and arson attacks.

The violence against the murder of a motorcyclist and 12th grade student at the Pleebo High school led to the destruction of government and private properties in the two cities. The Harper Central Prison was stormed by angry mob, causing nearly more than 90 inmates to escape

As a result of the riot by angry protesters, major roads were blocked, stores, schools and other business were force to shut their doors disrupting normal activities in the areas

President Weah urged all citizens and residents of Maryland to remain peaceful and adhere to the curfew and stay home order, promising that the Ministry of Justice will promptly investigate the matter.

In compliance to the order, locals are indoors before 6Pm every evening making the job easy for the Joint Security team, which includes the Liberia National Police and the Armed Forces of Liberia both in both Harper and Pleebo cities.

The national government had to deploy more security forces last week to beef up the limited strength of the local security forces in the two cities and could not bring the explosive situation under control at the time.

Over 130 Joint Security’s officers are currently in Maryland enforcing night-time curfew.

The angry crowd broke into the Prison Compound and granted immediate freedom to about 90 inmates, while searching for the Moses Mlamah, age 18 to kill him, because they claimed that the Liberian government through the ministry of Justice is delaying to handle the matter.

Moses Mlamah, Francis Klah and someone simply called Open ziper allegedly murdered senior student Mordecail Nymeah on Thursday, March 25, 2021 along the Grand Kru-Maryland highway.

Nyemah was said to have been killed in cold blood for ritualistic purpose, a practice locally referred to here as “Boyo”.who was killed in cold blood.

But since them, calm returned to the county hours after the curfew was imposed.

Security forces have since been patrolling the streets of Harper and Pleebo cities around the clock, ensuring the enforcement of the presidential order.
