Microfinance Loan Scheme Launched In Pleebo, Southeastern Liberia

HARPER, Liberia- As a means of improving local businesses in the southeastern region, BRAC Liberia Microfinance Company Limited has been launched in Pleebo City, Maryland County which is expected to benefit many locals.

The ceremony well-attended ceremony took place recently and was attended by many, including local government officials in the County.

Speaking the program, the CEO of BRAC Liberia, Rezaul Karim said that his group is introducing loan products to provide financial support to members of small business groups in the entire Maryland County.

“Our mission is to provide a range of Financial services responsibly to people at the bottom of the pyramid also we particularly focus on women living in poverty in rural and hard to reach areas,  to create self-employment opportunities, build financial resilience, and harness women’s entrepreneurial spirit by empowering them economically,” Mr. Karim explained.

Currently, BRAC says it is operating 29 Microfinance branches in 7

counties in Liberia:  Montserrado, Bong, Nimba, Lofa, Margibi, Grand Bassa including Maryland.

More than 300 well-trained Liberian staffer have been providing dynamic services, according to the group’s officials.

Maryland County Superintendent George A. Prowd told the of the loan scheme to work hard to make profit in their businesses.

“I want to caution you, the beneficiaries in Maryland to be very committed. Please don’t take the people’s money and escape,” Superintendent Prowd said.

Speaking on behalf of the beneficiaries, Ms. Annie Brown in a joyous mood congratulated the BRAC loan Company for establishing a branch in Pleebo City

“Let me say bravo to you, Manager and your team.  We the beneficiaries will positively meet your expectation,” said Ms. Brown.
