“My Heart Aches With This Unimaginable Loss”: Ex-President Ellen Sirleaf Mourns Death Of Her 2nd Son

Says She Deeply Appreciates The Thoughts And Prayers Of Sympathizers

The death of her second son, Charles Sirleaf, former Deputy Governor of the Central Bank of Liberia this week has plunged Liberia and Africa’s first elected woman President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf into deep mourning.

Writing on her X (formerly Twitter) feed many hours ago, former President Sirleaf says “my heart aches with this unimaginable loss”.

 

Mr. Sirleaf, who served as Deputy Governor for Operations at the Central Bank of Liberia from 2012 to 2020, had worked with the CBL for many years. During this period, he temporarily held the position of Executive Governor following the resignation of then-Governor Mill Jones. After Governor Milton Weeks’ appointment as Executive Governor. and he died at age 68.

On Monday, June 4, 2024, President Joseph N. Boakai, Sr., who is currently attended the Korea-Africa summit in Seoul, has extended his condolences to Former President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf on the loss of her son, Charles Sirleaf.

An Executive Mansion dispatch from Korea on Monday, June 3, 2024 said in a telephone conversation with the former President, the Liberian Leader expressed his profound regrets and prayed that God consoles Madam Sirleaf and her family during such a difficult time.
