NaFAA Boss Calls For Investment To Be Prioritized In The Fisheries Sector

SANNIQUELLIE, Liberia- The Director General of the National Fisheries and Aquaculture Authority (NaFAA) has reiterated that the Liberian Fisheries sector has huge opportunities for investment as such is challenging Liberians particularly Owners of Media entities to tap on the available opportunities to help boost the economy.

Madam Emma Glassco noted that, with the rapid growing digital media, that is affecting the income of media business, especially the print media, it is about time that media institutions venture into other businesses to support their entities, a NaFAA press release says.

Addressing Liberian Journalists in Sanniquelle city today, Friday, Septemebt 30, 2022 at the 58th Anniversary program of the Journalists Union, Mdam Glassco stated that investment in fisheries sector could be a perfect option for Liberians as there are many opportunities.

She mentioned that media institutions could invest in fish farming, obtain a boat and start fishing, or get involved into cold storage operations, such investment according to her could economically impart their existing businesses such as radio stations and print media houses.

The NaFAA Boss emphasized that Liberia is endowed with many water bodies and wetlands suitable for fish farming and fishing therefore there is an urgent need for more Liberians to take advantage and invest in the fisheries sector.

Stressing further Madam Glassco said there is still a gap in the Liberian fisheries program which leads to post harvest loss, as such bridging the gaps is an investment opportunity that Liberians can urgently take advantage of by investing in the fisheries sector.

Commenting on the needs fisherfolks, Madam Glassco pointed out that Liberian fishermen and fishmongers need cold storage facilities, ice supply and an instant market for their catches. She indicated that the provision of all of these facilities could increase local production by at least 20% and reduce the fish demand deficit.

The Liberian Female fisheries expert noted that Liberians could invest in fishing, as the Liberia is endowed with huge marine resources and as Liberians, there are many incentives to protect their business establishment.

Speaking more about investment opportunities available in the fisheries sector Madam Glassco urged that Liberians can invest in supplies, such as feeds, nets, motor engines, and mobile refrigerators, as a way of taken over their own economy.

Meanwhile, NaFAA Boss stated that fisheries is more than fishing and the sector has a lot of career opportunities, including Fisheries Economics, Fisheries Management, Fisheries Law, Fisheries Governance, Fisheries Science and Aquaculture, Oceanographic, and many other related fields.
