National Education Conference Starts Tuesday To Review Challenges & Advance Solutions

The Ministry of Education in collaboration with the United Nations Children Fund is expected to hold a two-day national education conference in Monrovia beginning tomorrow, Tuesday, December 13, 2022.

Education Minister Prof Ansu Sonii disclosed that the national education conference will bring together a cross-section of stakeholders in the education sector to review the challenges, work done and advance proposals for the future.

Addressing a joint press conference along with the Resident Representative of the United Nations Children’s agency in Congo Town, Minister Sonii explained that the conferees will also discuss the five-year plan developed so as the ascertain some opinions from stake holders.

According to the minister, the national education conference will run from 1314 December, 2022 at the Ellen Johnson Sirleaf Ministerial Complex in Congo Town.

The Education Minister disclosed that the five-year plan value almost one billion United States Dollars will be needed to implement for a number of years.

UNICEF on the need for collective efforts

Meanwhile, the Resident Representative of UNICEF has called for collective efforts aimed at reducing the over children in to some educational or vocational institutions.

Madam Laila Gad maintained that the issue of disadvantaged youths needs a special committee of experts to discuss a mechanism through which the problems can be addressed.

She expressed the support of UN children agency in tackling the problems of children who have no formal education in obtaining some kind of vocational training.

According to conference organizers, the objectives ate analyze and identify the key bottlenecks, gaps and recommendations for effective implementation and execution of relevant policy and plans

The conference hopes to advance proposals aimed at strengthening mutual accountability, review effectiveness of participation structures, build strong partnership through awareness and create the commitment to action by stakeholders.

The conference is expected to bring participants from the executive and legislative branches of the government, the donor agencies and development partners, traditional leaders and civil society organizations.
