The Liberia National police have been found contradicting itself on report of the armed attack on the home of former Chief Justice Gloria Musu Scott last Wednesday in the Brewerville suburb of Monrovia, which resulted into killing of one of her daughters.

It can be recalled that the police in a press statement had earlier informed the public that Former Chief Justice Scott revealed that a man who was part of a crew she hired to carry out some construction work at her residence remained hidden inside at the end of the work day, while his colleagues had retired for the day, and later attacked her family at night and killed her daughter.

The young Miss. Charloe Musu, who was preparing to graduate from the Starz College of Technology shortly, died after the attack on their home, after being stabbed by the attacker multiple times. Another lady in the house is suffering injury as the result of the attack on the former Chief Justice home.

But, addressing the press on Monday, Police spokesperson Moses Carter said there were four females including former Chief Justice who were present who have now been subjected to questioning in order to aid their investigation.

Former TRC Commission Chairman, Cllr. Jerome Verdier who is currently in the United States, made an earlier allegation on the “Spoon Talk” show of the Spoon Network live on radio and the Social Media that a member of the Monrovia City Police and a former rebel fighter during Liberia’s civil war was behind the reported assassination attempt against Cllr. Scott.

With evidence yet to be established, the revelations raised serious public concerns and instilled fear in the public. Amid the public pressure and outcry, the Police Inspector General Patrick Sudue told a Senate hearing earlier in the week that the man named by Cllr. Verdier, Varlee Tarleeh is now a person of interest and would face police investigation at the Liberia National Police (LNP) headquarters in Monrovia this Wednesday morning.

At the same time, the LNP has put up US$5,000 (Five Thousand United States Dollars) bounty or reward out to anyone who will provide information that will lead to the arrest of individuals allegedly linked to the attack leading to the murder of Cllr. Scott’s daughter, Charloe Musu.

Speaking on Monday in Monrovia, the LNP spokesperson noted that any whistleblower coming forth will be highly protected as their information will aid police investigation.

The police have also threatened to sue Cllr Jerome Verdier on comments linking the Police IG to the murder of Matthew Innis who died in 2019.

The Police called on the former TRC Chairman to retract his statement made on Spoon FM or risk Civil action.

In another development, the national police and the Ministry of Justice have also contradicted each other this week.

Appearing before the Liberian Senate, the Solicitor General and acting Minister of Justice, Cllr. Nyan Tuan told Senators that there is a problem of some people going around with arms on our streets. But Police IG Sudue contradicted the acting Minister by saying that was not the case to the amazement of Senators.
