National Public Library Gets Books From Greater Monrovia Lions Club

(Last Updated On: )

The National Library of Liberia has received around 361 different reading materials from the Greater Monrovia Lion Club.

Books on first aid, HIV/AIDS, Good Nutrition for All, Good Health Begins at Home, and several reading skills books are included in the contribution.

On Thursday, January 25, 2024, a donation of many mixed volumes valued at over $2,000 US dollars was made to the National Public Library of Liberia headquarters located on Ashmun Street in Monrovia.

Mr. Christian J. Jlatuh, Director for Library Services, National Library of Liberia, received the books from Daniel Sanpah, District Governor, District 403 A2 Lions International.

The books will be utilized to educate adults in the nation, Director Jlatuh added, welcoming the donation made by the Greater Monrovia Lions Club.

He stated that among other things, the National Library’s mission is to promote literacy throughout the nation by developing literacy initiatives and civic education.

The Director of Library Services stated that there is an urgent need for help and attention because literacy is a human rights issue.

“Programs and initiatives that will help the library fulfill its actual purpose are of interest to me,” he continued.

The gift is intended for the adult literacy program that will shortly be launched in partnership with the National Library, We Care Foundation, and the Monrovia Lion Club, according to Mildred Dean, Commissioner on Literacy, Greater Monrovia Lion Club.

“We have resources that are specifically made for the adult literacy program. The upcoming adult literacy program will be especially beneficial to adults who are illiterate,” said Mrs. Dean.

The Center for National Documents and Records Agency oversees the management of Liberia’s National Public Library.
